Irrigating Our Blueberry Plants With Gravity and Creek Water!
@RainPoint #RainPoint #Gardening #Smartwateringsystem #morethanwatersaving
In this video, I try to save our old blueberry patch that we have neglected for several years due to not having an irrigation system in place. This year, I want to change that. However, I don't want to pull water from our well not use all the electricity that would require. Taking advantage of slope, solar energy, and automation I was able to come up with a solution.

    Short-term fix to fill the tank, instead of running barrels up, stretch a hose from the hose bib to the bottom of the hose at the blueberry patch and push the water up the hill with the well pump, assuming it has the pressure to list the water that high. Not an ideal solution, but if the IBC tote is about 330 gallons, you would only need to fill it about every 20 days if you are watering 16 gallons a day.

    Now you have a new hose running from ibc to plants, could you put a junction in and use the same hose to backfill the tank from the house once in a while?

    Troy, great video. I was thinking. I know you have chickens near your house to fertilize the garden now, but do you still have that huge lot of all different kinds of breeds? I just recently came across that video with you and Kelly talking about your favorite chicken breeds. I know it's an older video, so I was wondering if you still have all those chickens and if so, do you still have the same breeds of chicken? Take care and God Bless.

    Nice video Troy. So what if you got a solar well pump 250 foot lift. Some solar panels to run it and 1,000 feet of 3/4 inch poly pipe and ran from your creek up behind the garden past the chickens to the tank, no road crossing. Maybe tea off and water the coop.I am guessing the tank would be running over. I seen other videos where this was done. Not sure about prices.

    Water Catchment could be done real cheap - Use tarps and bungees to your trees and have them come down to a V to your tank. If you have heavy dew like we do, you could fill them up rain or not. Direct it into the tanks or totes.

  • @KaleidoscopeJunkie
    @KaleidoscopeJunkie 2 дні тому

    Looks you have well spaced, uphill trees to suspend tarps. Maybe catch rain in tarps/barrels uphill and hose those into the IBC? -KJ

  • @malcolmsokol4294
    @malcolmsokol4294 2 дні тому

    Looks great but I am still concerned about wracking of the pergola frame. It can move laterally in and out from both walls with no resistance to oppose the motion. Since you have the side wall of the existing porch which is framed with siding, presumably you could put a small ledger there and maybe build an open ladder trellis over the open space and attach to the top side rail of the pergola. Thus something will be holding the unit from moving left and right and perhaps this strength in that corner would keep in and out movement minimized. While not aesthetically pleasing, some sore of cross bracing may be needed in each of the sections.

    • @RedToolHouse
      @RedToolHouse 2 дні тому

      Racking was a concern of mine as well but once the pergola corners were screwed down it really firmed up. We have had a couple strong wind gusts and there has been zero movement. The rigidity of the corners is keeping it in place.

    2 acres is a nightmare to maintain even for a lower end rich man(few million) that has a few pieces of machinery and a few hired hands from time to time,43 acres is gonna be hell on earth unless you have lots of time and lots of big equipment,just think of one big winter storm and the havoc that can cause on your long driveway,for $10k can't go wrong really but I think people underestimate just what goes into maintenance of a property that big,and liability

    • @RedToolHouse
      @RedToolHouse 2 дні тому

      You maintain what you choose to maintain. We live on 100 acres and by no means try to maintain every inch. We maintain less than one acre around the house. Manage the front 10 acres and periodically checkup on the remaining 90 making sure access roads are still open. Not a very big expense at all. With raw land, you can pick and choose.

    Gravity? Why use words who's meaning you do not know or understand? You think the mass of Earth is attracting the mass of the water but that's not valid science. What is happening is a simple display of buoyancy and density. We know the claim of mass attracting mass does not work because gas is physical matter that does not obey that silly notion. Gas always expands in all directions due to entropy, thats the 2nd law of thermodynamics. This is the Reason it was taught that Newton was Overthrown when Einstein came out with his also fraudulent idea of gravity. Study it. There is zero scientific cause and effect relationship established for either Newton or Einstein. In fact Newton himself wanted nothing to do with the idea as he told Richard Bentley. You can look that letter up. Of course No one has ever observed Einsteins made up by a man's mathamatical thought experiment called bendy spacetime.

    How about punching a hole 20-30 feet in the ground. Install pvc pipe into gravel right next to blueberries. Build a 4-5 high platform for your tank. Use solar panel and pump to transfer water out of ground. Assuming that's where your water table is located. No tractor, no ground erosion hauling water up the hill.

    That'll be fantastic for those blueberries!!!!! One of our favorite siblings 😉 had planted 700 blueberry bushes and requested shredded newspaper from local paper. They brought them mountains of it to mulch around the plants. They even put an article/pics about what she was doing. Helped so much with moisture and keeping sun from dehydrating top of soil. They like their feet covered. That was YEARS ago they were planted and they still have the biggest, dusty blue, sweetest, best tasting blueberries I've ever tasted. We told her we were having an issue with the birds and she said, oh yeah, you have to plant enough for them too. 🤣 I guess 700 was enough? They lost about 1/3 of them as someone in the family didn't listen to how to prune them. He pruned them SEVERELY. Very sad. But she still has plenty today. I'd love to have a small orchard of blueberries. And different apples..... pears.. etc. GREAT job, Troy!! They're gonna be wonderful! 💌

  • @thomasschmitthomesteadproj6025

    Looks good. Nice you didn't use any of the vinyl planks. The promise of looking good and maintenance free is just not real. They sag, they are super hot in the sun, very slick when wet and crack relatively easy if you drop something on them when frozen. At one time I was going to get it and then looking at it in the store, and reading reviews convinced me otherwise. There is no grain strength to it.

    If you only have one little spot that might be alright, but it looks time consuming for many large areas. For years I've just hung poly (electric fence) braid from the hot wire and it's done in minutes no spacers needed because you tie them tight ( you could use spaces if you wanted to but I find no need). You could also tie bolts for weight if you want them nice and straight, but they eventually straighten out.

    Pressure treating on timbers doesn’t seem to penetrate all the way through the timber. Thus when putting the cut end of a timber in the ground one has untreated wood in ground contact, which can lead to failure. I always put the uncut, treated end of a post in the hole so all wood in contact with soil has been treated.
